Motor vehicle crashes are the second leading cause of death for on-duty firefighters. Firetruck crashes, occurring at a rate of approximately 30, crashes per year, have potentially dire consequences for the vehicle occupants and for the community if the firetruck was traveling to provide emergency services. Data from the United States Fire Administration and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that firefighters neglect to buckle their seatbelts while traveling in a fire apparatus, thus putting themselves at a high risk for injuries if the truck crashes, especially in rollover crashes. Despite national regulations and departmental guidelines aiming to improve safety on fire apparatuses, belt use among firefighters remains dangerously low. The results from this study indicate that further steps need to be taken to improve belt use. One promising solution would be to redesign firetruck seatbelts to improve the ease of buckling and to accommodate wider variations in firefighter sizes. Each year, an average of firefighters die and , firefighters are injured in the line of duty from a variety of causes including, but not limited to, extreme physical exertion, underlying medical conditions, and motor vehicle crashes United States Fire Administration, Motor vehicle crashes are the second highest cause of death for firefighters. Firetruck crashes, although rare in comparison to non-emergency vehicle crashes, tend to have grave consequences for firetruck occupants and for occupants in other vehicles involved in the crash.

Toronto speed dating lures women with cops, firemen. When I sat down Libra Lounge on Thursday night for the Men in Uniforms charity speed dating event, I didn’t meet the chest-baring model in a fireman jacket that accompanied their webpage, but neither did I meet the cliched balding policeman with cheetos stains on his mouth and donut crumbs on his fingers. Instead, my first date of the night was a full-time fireman who was just as nervous as I was. Turns out that he, like me, had never been to a singles event before, and laughing at our mutual discomfort became a starting point to what was a whirlwind of eight-minute dates with 10 interesting and charismatic men.
This event was for heterosexual singles hosted by FastLife. According to them, eight minutes is the optimal time for a speed date because it’s just long enough that you get to know somebody beyond the basic introductions, but also short enough that the conversation doesn’t drag. Going by the volume of the chatter around the lounge, it seemed that most people were having a good time and that some connections were being made.

Fighting fires requires professional performance — from both man and machine. When every second counts, fire-fighting vehicles have to fulfil the highest standards. Speed, reliability, ergonomics and simple handling are of the essence. Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks have plenty of that. Speed dating is a formalized matchmaking process which has the purpose of encouraging eligible singles to meet large numbers of new potential partners in a very short period of time. SpeedDating , as a single word, is a registered trademark of Aish HaTorah. Speed dating , as two separate words, is often used as a generic term for similar events. The earliest documented example of speed dating was by Aryeh Alan and Rena Hirsch of Los Angeles in early who developed speed dating as a solution to the problem of typical single events where “only attractive women and outgoing men have success at the end of the evening”.
Usually advance registration is required for speed dating events. Men and women are rotated to meet each other over a series of short “dates” usually lasting from three to eight minutes depending on the organization running the event. At the end of each interval, the organizer rings a bell, clinks a glass, or blows a whistle to signal the participants to move on to the next date. At the end of the event participants submit to the organizers a list of who they would like to provide their contact information to.
If there is a match, contact information is forwarded to both parties. Contact information cannot be traded during the initial meeting, in order to reduce pressure to accept or reject a suitor to his or her face. Requirement for each event vary with the organizer. Specific age range based on gender is a common restriction for events.
Many speed dating events are targeted at particular communities.
